Have you ever tried to automatically update your wordpress blog but then you messed your website up? Do not worry, there is an alternative to upgrade your wordpress blog into the latest version, which is by manual. It is not difficult,  I will show you step by step in this article. Programs needed for this purpose is FileZilla. You can download it for free. Here are the steps to manually upgrade your wordpress version :

1. Download the latest wordpress from http://wordpress.org/latest , extract the zip file, then delete the wp-content folder.

2. Download FileZilla from http://filezilla-project.org/download.php then install it on your computer.

3. One thing you need to do before upgrading, deactivate all of your plugin from the Dashboard-Plugins menu on the left.

4. In case something happen, we need to backup the database. Log in to your cpanel website (e.g  http://kickandri.com/cpanel), fill the username and password from your hosting company.

Choose File-backup wizard.  Then choose Backup –> MySQL Databases –> click on the Database name to download it.

5. The next step is to transfer the files from the latest wordpress version to overwrite the old ones. Open FileZilla, fill the username and password the same as before (on the cpanel), fill the host with your website name, just let the port blank, then press Quickconnect.

After being connected, the two windows will appear. The left window shows the files and folders on your computer, while the right window shows the files and folders on server from your hosting company.

Pick the wordpress folder which has no wp-content folder on the left, and pick publick_html folder on the right. Highlight all the files and folders on your computer by click on the top folder, press Shift, and press the bottom file (as shown in the figure).

Right click on the left window, and press Upload.”Target file already exists” window will appear, choose action overwrite, tick Always use this action, and press OK. Now you just wait until the transfer process is finished. The transfer indicator can be seen on the lower left of the FileZilla. After the file transfer is finished, choose  Server-Disconnect, and exit Filezilla.

6. Login to your Dashboard, (e g,: http://kickandri/wp-admin), this screen will appear :

Update WordPress Database, and after Update complete, press Continue.

Congratulation! Your latest wordpress is successfully installed.

Bagi Anda yang pernah mencoba untuk mengupgrade blog wordpress Anda secara otomatis namun tidak berhasil, tidak perlu khawatir karena mengupgrade wordpress juga dapat dilakukan secara manual. Di artikel ini, saya akan memberi tahu caranya selangkah demi selangkah. Kita mulai dari menyiapkan program-programnya dulu ya. Ikuti langkah2 berikut :

1. Download versi wordpress terbaru di http://wordpress.org/latest , ektstrak file zipnya, kemudian hapus folder wp-contentnya.

2. Download filezilla di http://filezilla-project.org/download.php . Setelah selesai mendownload Filezilla, install di komputer Anda.

3. Sebelum mengupgrade versi wordpress, non aktifkan dulu semua plugin melalui menu Dashboard – Plugins.

4. Untuk berjaga-jaga jika terjadi sesuatu, backuplah database website Anda dengan cara masuk ke cpanel website. Misal : http://kickandri.com/cpanel, isikan dengan username dan password yang diberikan oleh penyedia hosting Anda.

Pilih File-backup wizard. Lalu pilih Backup –> MySQL Databases –> klik di nama Database untuk mendownload.

5. Selanjutnya, bukalah Filezilla yang tadi sudah di-install di komputer Anda.Isikan host dengan nama website anda (tidak perlu pakai http dan www), username dan password seperti pada cpanel yang tadi (atau bisa ditanyakan pada penyedia hosting Anda). Port dikosongkan saja, kemudian tekan Quickconnect.

Setelah berhasil tersambung, akan terlihat dua buah jendela dimana yang sebelah kiri adalah file dan folder yang berada di komputer Anda, dan jendela sebelah kanan menunjukkan file dan folder yang berada di server file hosting Anda.

Pilih folder wordpress yang sudah dihapus wp-contentnya di sebelah kiri, dan di sebelah kanan pilih folder public html, kemudian pilih semua file yang berada di folder wordpress komputer Anda, dengan cara memilih file folder paling atas, tekan Shift, dan tekan file paling bawah. (lihat gambar)

Klik kanan pada jendela sebelah kiri, dan tekan Upload. Akan muncul jendela Target file already exists, pilih action overwrite, pilih Always use this action, dan tekan OK. Tunggu sampai proses transfer selesai. Indikatornya bisa dilihat di sebelah kiri bawah layar FileZilla. Setelah sukses mentransfer seluruh file, pilih Server-Disconnect, dan keluar dari aplikasi Filezilla.

6. Login ke dashboard website Anda, (contoh : http://kickandri/wp-admin), dan akan muncul layar untuk mengupdate database wordpress Anda :

Tekan Update WordPress Database, setelah Update complete, tekan Continue.

Selamat! WordPress versi terbaru Anda sudah berhasil diinstal.
