Have you ever tried to automatically update your wordpress blog but then you messed your website up? Do not worry, there is an alternative to upgrade your wordpress blog into the latest version, which is by manual. It is not difficult, I will show you step by step in this article. Programs needed for this purpose is FileZilla. You can download it for free. Here are the steps to manually upgrade your wordpress version :
1. Download the latest wordpress from http://wordpress.org/latest , extract the zip file, then delete the wp-content folder.
2. Download FileZilla from http://filezilla-project.org/download.php then install it on your computer.
3. One thing you need to do before upgrading, deactivate all of your plugin from the Dashboard-Plugins menu on the left.
4. In case something happen, we need to backup the database. Log in to your cpanel website (e.g http://kickandri.com/cpanel), fill the username and password from your hosting company.
Choose File-backup wizard. Then choose Backup –> MySQL Databases –> click on the Database name to download it.
5. The next step is to transfer the files from the latest wordpress version to overwrite the old ones. Open FileZilla, fill the username and password the same as before (on the cpanel), fill the host with your website name, just let the port blank, then press Quickconnect.
After being connected, the two windows will appear. The left window shows the files and folders on your computer, while the right window shows the files and folders on server from your hosting company.
Pick the wordpress folder which has no wp-content folder on the left, and pick publick_html folder on the right. Highlight all the files and folders on your computer by click on the top folder, press Shift, and press the bottom file (as shown in the figure).
Right click on the left window, and press Upload.”Target file already exists” window will appear, choose action overwrite, tick Always use this action, and press OK. Now you just wait until the transfer process is finished. The transfer indicator can be seen on the lower left of the FileZilla. After the file transfer is finished, choose Server-Disconnect, and exit Filezilla.
6. Login to your Dashboard, (e g,: http://kickandri/wp-admin), this screen will appear :
Update WordPress Database, and after Update complete, press Continue.
Congratulation! Your latest wordpress is successfully installed.
